Senate Bill 818, Increase the Zero Tax Bracket, would increase the standard deduction in North Carolina’s state income tax code.
The amount of the deduction would rise to $17,500 for married filers (from the current $15,500) by 2017 and $8,750 for single filers (up from the current $7,750).
This tax code change would result in a tax cut for the overwhelming majority of North Carolinians, including the majority of small businesses who file taxes through the individual tax form.
Civitas Action supports tax cuts that allow North Carolinians to keep more of their hard-earned dollars and enable greater job growth and economic prosperity.
Civitas Action fully intends to grade any votes taken on Senate Bill 818 in its 2016 Civitas Action Conservative Effectiveness Ranking, and the grades will be updated to the website within one or two business days following the vote. The rankings can be found at www.civitasaction.org.
