House Bill 4, Extend ABC Permit Renewal Fee Deferral, defends the freedom of North Carolina business owners by preventing burdensome fees on them at a time when the government has shut down their businesses. Civitas Action believes the vote for freedom is a vote YES on HB4.

When the governor shut down businesses in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, he prohibited the business owners from their constitutional right to make a living. Bar owners in particular have been hit hard from the governor’s long-lasting shutdowns.

Forcing businesses to pay a fee to renew a license that the state will not allow them to use adds insult to injury.

HB4 corrects this egregious government overreach by delaying the renewal fee requirement until 90 days after the lockdown restrictions are lifted.

All North Carolinians have the right to make living without government overreach. For that reason, Civitas Action believes the vote to defend freedom is a vote YES on HB4.

Civitas Action will grade the second reading floor vote on this legislation in the House or Senate.
