HB 756: Standards Advisory Commission creates the State Course of Study Advisory Commission. The purpose is to involve stakeholders in establishing a standard course of study and to make recommendations to the State Board of Education. Twenty members will be on the committee, 16 of the appointments will be made by the General Assembly to make recommendations to the State Board of Education, housed at DPI, but operate functionally apart from it.

This is an attempt to provide greater input to the review process for the Standard Course of Study. It gets different voices heard and is a good move towards transparency. The provisions in HB 756 can work to enhance the review process in a more democratic way and enhance accountability regarding proposed changes and deletions.
