SB 406/HB 823 Choose Your School, Choose Your Future are companion bills that are massive advancements for school choice in North Carolina! In part, these bills would remove income eligibility requirements for the Opportunity Scholarship Program and reward scholarships on a sliding scale. Household income would still determine the size of the scholarship to ensure that students needing it the most get the most.

An educated citizenry is necessary for a functioning democracy, and educational freedom with school choice is common sense policy philosophy.

As Milton Friedman reminds us, “Remember vouchers are a means not an end. The purpose of vouchers is to enable parents to have free choice, and the purpose of having free choice is to provide competition and allow the educational industry to get out of the 17th century and get into the 21st century and have more innovation and more evolvement. There is no reason why you cannot have the same kind of change in the provision of education as you have had in industries like the computer industry, the television industry and other things.” (Milton Friedman, Nobel Laureate, 2003)
