RALEIGH – Civitas Action will once again produce its annual Conservative Effectiveness Ranking of North Carolina state lawmakers in 2017.

A key feature, which we first used last year, will be tracking votes as they happen in order to produce a cumulative, up-to-date score voters and legislators can track throughout the session.

“We will score legislative votes as soon as possible after the vote occurs,” said Civitas Action President Francis De Luca. “That way, legislators, media and voters alike will be able to track the rankings after each scored vote.”

Moreover, Civitas Action will continue to make its best attempt to alert legislators of their intention to grade votes on a bill prior to the vote’s taking place.

“The alert will indicate Civitas Action’s stance on the bill, clearly communicating how a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ vote will impact a legislator’s score, before they vote,” said DeLuca. “This process should eliminate surprises for legislators when they look at their conservative ranking.”

Civitas Action is a 501(c)(4) non-profit that educates and informs North Carolinians on policy issues and the actions of their elected officials.
