HB 594 - VETO OVERRIDE - Temporarily Open Gyms/Health Clubs/Fitness Centers.

The governor’s veto of House Bill 594 cited concerns that the bill limited his power to reclose certain businesses in the event of a future public health threat from COVID-19. However, the legislation specifically addresses this concern in Section 3, which allows the governor to reclose businesses if he obtains concurrence from a majority of the Council of State. Any government decision to force closure ‘ or in this case, reclosing ‘ of private businesses should be required to withstand scrutiny at a standard proportional to the seriousness of the consequences of such a decision. The vote to defend freedom is yes to override the governor’s veto of HB 594.
