Senate Bill 677 Protect Right to Hunt and Fish would place on this November’s ballot an amendment to the state constitution that would recognize “The right of the people to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife” in North Carolina. The right would be “forever preserved for the public good,” according to the amendment.

Supporters of this measure argue that animal rights groups are seeking to limit specific hunting and fishing methods, while more land is being determined by the government as off-limits to hunters in favor of hiking trails.

The amendment would further declare “Public hunting and fishing shall be a preferred means of managing and controlling wildlife.”

Civitas Action believes the rights of sportsmen should be recognized, and that hunting and fishing are important industries in our state that should be protected.
