Civitas Action will grade the vote on Amendment 1 to SB 770, North Carolina Farm Act of 2016 – as the amendment represents a simple, clear-cut vote for or against extending the renewable tax credits.

Amendment 1 to Senate Bill 770 would delete a section included in the bill that would extend by two years the state tax credit for constructing renewable energy facilities. Under current law, the state tax credits are scheduled to expire for facilities placed into service on or after January 1, 2017.

Civitas Action opposes crony capitalism such as taxpayer subsidies or targeted tax credits that provide government-granted competitive advantages to specific businesses.

The rest of SB 770 has far less of an impact and is largely unobjectionable. As long as SB 770 includes the section to extend the renewable energy tax credit, however, Civitas Action will grade any votes on the bill.

Any votes will be added to the 2016 Civitas Action Conservative Effectiveness Ranking, and the grades will be updated to the website within one or two business days following the vote.
